Rochester, Michigan was the site of the first European settlers in Oakland County. Its location along the Paint Creek and Clinton Rivers made the city an ideal location for a variety of industries. During its earlier years, it was home to flour mills, knitting mills, paper mills, saw mills, and became a hub for the railroads. Some of these factories even lasted well into the twentieth century, contributing to the United States war efforts in both the first and second World Wars. This series explores the industrial history of Rochester, including its triumphs and tragic events.
